Lawsuits have been brought against many of the oral laxative companies and those unsupervised, over-the-counter such as Fleet enemas.

In case you have not heard, the claim is that sever kidney damage has occurred after use of such treatments either for constipation relief or pre-op preparation.

You can read more about the kidney risk warning from the FDA or about the voluntary recall of CB Fleet products.

Fleet Enema: Dangerous Drugs

At-home enemas have been a staple of over-the-counter medicine for decades. Recently, the industry of cologenics has given rise to a variety of new colon-cleansing products. Some of these products suggest an oral cleansing solution be used before using a traditional enema.

“The Fleet Enema is one such combination enema involving an oral drink. The drink contains sodium phosphate, an ingredient now known to potentially cause massive kidney damage. In some cases, users of the drug have required dialysis or even transplant after an adverse reaction to the sodium phosphate in the oral mixture.”

What many people don’t know is that colon hydrotherapy (colonics), have now been approved by many MD’s and insurance companies as an adequate source of cleansing pre colonoscopy. Only filtered water is used. ICD-9 billing codes are available at our office to assist you in getting repayment from your insurance carrier for your colonhydrotherapy sessions!

By using a two day regime of colonics pre-colonoscopy and other such pre-op preparations you can avoid the uncomfortable side effects that come from using traditional prescription methods.

Now that these new lawsuits have surfaced it seems all the more reason to use colon hydrotherapy as an alternative!

Give us a call and we can set up your pre-op cleanse!
